While being comfortable sounds like a good thing, it may be contributing to your unhappiness. When people, couples, and families are too comfortable in life, it's easy to get into a rut. Ruts are predictable and boring, and don't promote happiness.

If you want to be happy, change up your routine. Get your family away from the television and doing something more interactive. You can play games, go for a walk, or enjoy a picnic in the park. Find activities in your city that you can take part in.

Whether you're single or a family, you can be missing out on what life has to offer because you stick closely to what you know. By getting out of your rut, you will find the excitment in life once again and become a happier person.

The connection between the gut and the brain is an important one. Whatever you put in your stomach is what your brain will feed off of. The brain is 75 percent water, and it requires plenty of hydration as well as nutrients from healthy food to function at its best.

Foods that are processed and don't contain vital nutrients can negatively affect your mood. If you want to be happier and more energetic, add more fruits, vegetables, and lean protein to your diet and reduce the amount of fast food and processed foods that you eat.

Also, replace sodas, juices, and caffeinated drinks with water. Your entire body requires water, so making it your beverage of choice will benefit not only your mental health but also your physical health.

You may think it's normal to not enjoy your job, but the truth is, many people do enjoy their work -- and you should as well. You might not always be in a job you love, but it's important that you don't settle because you think work is meant to be miserable.

If you've always wanted to create and sell jewelry, find a way to make it happen. If you've always wanted to write, begin writing.

You might not be able to quit the job you don't enjoy right away, but just the act of working toward your goal of a better job, in your chosen field, can make you happer. Don't spend your life working for the weekend. You should enjoy every day as much as possible.

After a long day of work, it's convenient to be able to go home, slip into your pyjamas, lounge on the couch, and spend the next five hours texting your friends. There's nothing wrong with doing that now and then, but sometimes you can end up feeling lonely.

Interacting with people in real life is more satisfying. Sitting with someone and being able to see their face and hear their laughter is much more enjoyable than receiving an emoji depicting those things. Of course you won't want to be social every night of the week, but definitely make it a habit to get together with people a couple times a week.

If you can only manage weekends, that's what you should aim for. A healthy social life can put you into a better mood. Choose your company carefully, though. Hanging out with a friend who is constantly negative will only put you into a bad mood.

You may enjoy caring for and helping others, but it may be taking more of a toll on you than you realize. It may be draining you of your energy both physically and mentally. In order to take care of others, you must first take care of yourself.

Sometimes you will have to say "no" when someone asks for a favour. Recognize that you aren't bad or mean if you're unable to help someone. Taking time to relax and rejuvenate is just as important as helping someone pack for their move, driving a friend to the mall, or babysitting your friend's kids every day after school.

If you want to be happier, make sure you're not sacrificing too much of yourself for the benefit of others.

If you find you aren't as happy as you'd like to be, but can't seem to pinpoint why, the reason may not be obvious. It may be something that people don't normally consider when it comes to happiness.
